Capacity Building for Youth

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) offers a comprehensive two-year on-job training programme for graduates from various disciplines, including engineering, geosciences (geology and geophysics), information technology, human resources and business management.
The programme, considered to be one of the best in the local oil & gas sector, aims to provide capacity building opportunities to trainees with a focus on hands-on experience by working directly in the company and learning through the experience of qualified staff. As part of core technical development, trainees are exposed to state-of-the-art technology, systems and latest exploration and production operations. To this end, they are regularly rotated within company’s various field locations. Moreover, learning and application of soft skills such as teamwork, communication and management workshops are part of the programme.
Throughout the training, line managers review trainees’ progress and provide feedback and opportunities to enhance learning. In line with the merit-based culture at PPL, regular employment may be offered on successful completion of training if:
 
• The trainee has acquired the required level of skills.
• The trainee’s performance justifies consideration for offering regular job in the Company.
• A suitable vacant position exists at the time.
Selection Criteria
• The number of trainees inducted during a year depends on operational requirements, existing strength of trainees in the company and availability of resources for providing effective and meaningful practical exposure.
• The rigorous selection process involves a competitive written test and panel interview followed by a detailed medical examination.
• The programme is open for Pakistani nationals, holding a Master’s or a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil or Industrial), Geosciences, Information Technology or Management Sciences.
It is important to note that while academic results are important, candidates’ performance throughout the selection process also plays a key role in their selection. These processes include:

On-job Training Schemes for 2012
                  PPL has recently announced the following two on-job training schemes for capacity building of youth in Pakistan:
• On-job Special Training Scheme for Underdeveloped Areas of Balochistan
• On-job Training Programme
On-job Special Training Scheme for Underdeveloped Areas of Balochistan
As part of the company’s commitment for capacity building of young professionals belonging to underdeveloped areas of Balochistan, including Sui, District Dera Bugti, PPL offers a two-year on-job Special Training Scheme for graduates in selected disciplines of engineering, management sciences  and technicians with 3 year Diploma of Associate Engineering for residents of Sui, Dera Bugti only. 
This scheme is not for Quetta residents who may apply for the concurrent On-job training
Programme standard criteria for selection of trainees which requires candidates to have maintained a first or high second division (57 percent and above) throughout their academic career and be between 22 and 27 years of age has been relaxed under special consideration for the special scheme.
How to Apply?
Pakistani nationals, who are domiciled residents of Balochistan, excluding Quetta, holding a Master’s or a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics) or Management Sciences or domiciled residents of Sui, Dera Bugti holding a 3 year Diploma of Associate Engineering may register themselves with NTS for the written test relevant to their discipline/ qualification by visiting http://www.nts.org.pk/NTSWeb/PPL/PPL.htm and paying a non-refundable fee of Rs. 650 latest by September 7, 2012.
The test fee will be reimbursed only to successful candidates who qualify for the interview.
Candidates securing minimum 60 percent in the written test will be further shortlisted on merit on the basis of number of available positions and called for interviews accordingly.

Learning is regularly monitored through periodic assessments and testing by external third party.

On-job Merit-oriented Training Programme

PPL’s On-job Merit-oriented Training Programme, considered to be one of the best in the local oil and gas sector, aims to provide comprehensive capacity building opportunities to trainees with a focus on hands-on-experience by working directly in the company and learning from experienced staff. On-job Special Training Scheme for Underdeveloped Areas of Balochistan

Under this scheme which is specifically designed for capacity building of young professionals (graduates and diploma holders) belonging to underdeveloped areas of Balochistan, including Sui, Dera Bugti, PPL’s standard selection criteria for trainees requiring candidates to have a first or high second division (57 percent and above) and be between 22 and 27 years of age is waived as a special consideration. 

Extended Internship Programme

The company initiated a one-year Extended Internship Programme (EIP) in 2013 under the umbrella of PPL Welfare Trust to expose youth from a cross-section of society to a structured learning environment for value addition and enhanced employability. EIP is an extension of the company’s training and development initiatives focused on youth, especially from marginalized communities, to improve the quality of their lives through improved skills and enhanced income potential.
