Shahbandar Block

Shahbandar Block

Shah Bandar Block, located in districts Thatta & Sujawal, Sindh, was awarded to Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in February, 2014. The block is a joint venture between PPL, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) & Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with working interests of 63 percent, 32 percent, 2.5 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively.

Shah Bandar Block is located in southern most part of the Lower Indus Basin. Most of the block area falls in marshy/ transitional zone which was previously unexplored due to operational challenges. PPL acquired 2D and 3D seismic data in the challenging terrain and firmed up Benari prospect for drilling, which resulted in a gas discovery from its first exploratory well Benari X-1 in December 2018.

Benari X-1 started production in May 2021 which was processed through nearby Sujawal Gas Processing Facilities (operated by MPCL). After depletion, the well is currently shut-in.

Further evaluation of the block is in progress to firm up further prospect(s) for drilling.
