PPL Observes Earth Hour 2011

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) supports Earth Hour (EH) 2011, an international energy conservation initiative initially launched in Pakistan by WWF in 2010. In observance of the company’s participation as a Corporate Ambassador, all lights and other equipment at PPL head and regional offices and fields were switched off between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm on March 26, 2011. Staff also participated in the EH at an individual level by registering on the EH website and switching off lights and equipment at their homes.

As a national energy provider, PPL stands committed to energy conservation as a means of bridging the gap between increasing demand and short supply as evident from MD and CEO Khalid Rahman’s message appended below.

Earth Hour was initiated on March 27, 2007 in Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to express their support. In 2008, global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, CN Tower in Toronto, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Rome’s Colosseum stood in darkness to mark Earth Hour. Since then, the event has become a global sustainability initiative with millions of people participating during the last four years. In Pakistan, EH 2010 and 2011 garnered wide support from the government, corporate sector and civil society organizations.
