Pakistan to participate in 21st World Petroleum Congress

A high-level government delegation led by Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will participate in the 21st World Petroleum Congress (WPC) scheduled between June 15 and 19, 2014 in Moscow, Russia to showcase business opportunities and draw foreign investment in Pakistan’s Exploration and Production sector.

Abbasi will also address a ministerial session on June 19 for a select delegates-only audience, highlighting incentives and facilitation offered by the government to enhance exploration of hydrocarbons in the country to meet energy needs.

Held every three years, WPC is a key event in the global petroleum calendar, bringing together industry leadership and government representatives to discuss application and transfer of latest technology, seek new avenues leading to business growth and foster responsible management of the world's energy resources. WPC is expected to draw over 5000 delegates with more than 500 operators, contractors, suppliers and service providers from across the world, who will also participate in an exhibition held on the sidelines of the congress.

Responsibly Energising a Growing World, the theme of this year’s WPC, is likely to generate debate around meeting future energy demand for a growing population in a sustainable and socially responsible manner through wise investments, use of skilled human resources, cutting-edge technologies and ethical business practices.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited, a key national oil and gas company with transnational operations, will also attend the WPC and ministerial session and give a presentation on the company’s exploration programme and blocks available for strategic joint venture partnerships.
