Dhok Sultan Block
The block lies at the junction of Kohat ‐ Potwar basins, covering parts of Attock and Mianwali districts in the Punjab as well as District Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and spans an area of 703.23 sq. km in zone I of western Potwar.
Dhok Sultan Block was formally granted to PPL on January 16, 2010 after the company acquired the block during the bidding round in September 2009.
Later, 160 L. km 2D seismic data was acquired between January and July 2013 which led to identifying the prospect for the first well Dhok Sultan X-1. The well resulted in the block’s first discovery from Lockhart formation, located in District Attock, in December 2015.
To evaluate the block’s remaining prospectivity and appraise Dhok Sultan structure, an additional 2D as well as 3D seismic survey was carried out between October 2016 and July 2017, acquiring 261 L. km 2D and 350 sq. km, respectively. Based on the results, Dhok Sultan X-1 ST-2 was planned and completed as an oil producer in ST-3.
