Syed Firasat Shah

General Manager Exploration (Frontier)

Syed Firasat Shah joined Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in March 2010 as Chief Geophysical Coordinator and served at various key positions, including Manager Exploration/ Specialist Geophysicist and Senior Manager Exploration South, the last one he held before assuming the charge of General Manager Exploration (South) on October 13, 2016. More recently, he was redesignated as General Manager Exploration (Frontier) on July 1, 2017.

Shah has a master’s degree in Geophysics from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad as well as a masters in Earth Sciences from Old Dominion University, USA. He has attended various international training programmes, including Project Management Certification through Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University.

Shah is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of diverse working experience in country and abroad including, Houston, Abu Dhabi, Cairo and Lagos, with leading companies such as Schlumberger.

During his tenure in PPL, Shah has worked on strengthening the company’s in-house seismic data processing capacity, it was his initiative that resulted in establishing an in-house seismic data processing facility. He also conducts staff training in the same. In his current role, Shah is responsible for PPL’s exploration assets in Balochistan and offshore areas of Pakistan as well as international blocks, where the company holds working interest.  

He has been a visiting faculty of geophysics at Department of Environment & Earth Sciences, Bahria University, Karachi Campus and authored a number of research papers. Shah has keen interest in social issues. Besides being a public speaker and presenter, he has published books on relevant issues.
