Farm-out Opportunities

The increase in demand coupled with the spike in oil and gas prices during the recent past has enhanced business interest in the Exploration and Production (E&P) sector worldwide. The trend has also influenced E&P activities in Pakistan, where the energy demand and supply gap is continuously widening.

Being a pioneer national E&P company, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is playing a proactive role in addressing growing demand to secure a safe energy future for the country. To this end, PPL has accelerated its exploration programme, in line with which the company won the largest number of exploration blocks by any company – 14 in all, of which 13 are PPL-operated and one partner-operated – in the September 2009 bidding round.

Currently, PPL has 34 exploration blocks in Pakistan of which the company operates 19 while the remaining 15 are operated by joint venture partners. This includes Offshore Indus G, participation interest of which is under process. These blocks are located in the lower, middle and upper Indus and Balochistan basins, Kirthar and Sulaiman Foldbelts. The company also holds working interest in one international block in Yemen in partnership with OMV Yemen. The company is also striving to acquire interest in additional blocks.

PPL’s joint venture partners include OMV (Pakistan) Exploration GmbH and OMV Yemen, Eni Pakistan Limited, MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company B.V., Polish Oil and Gas Company, Pyramid Energy International Incorporated, China ZhenHua Oil Company Limited, Saita Pakistan PTE Limited, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, Petroleum Exploration (Private) Limited, Mari Gas Company Limited, Asia Resources Oil Limited, Government Holdings (Private) Limited, United Energy Group (Former British Petroleum Pakistan), Pakistan Oilfields Limited, Kuwait Energy Company, KUFPEC Pakistan B.V. and New Horizon Exploration & Production Limited.

Continuing its tradition of working with enterprising joint venture partners, PPL is seeking partnerships in its few selected blocks.
