Drilling and Well Engineering

Owing to the recent successes in exploration, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is geared towards an aggressive work programme which has opened up new prospects for drilling and well engineering activities. To this end, PPL ‘s five-year plan involves increasing drilling of both exploration and development wells in all assets across Pakistan.

Drilling and Well Engineering (DWE) Department’s mission is to drill and workover high quality, cost-effective wells in time, fulfilling Quality, Health, Safety and Environment standards, to meet corporate objectives. ​The department is certified for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 international standards.

 DWE Department works with a steady drilling operations strategy implemented through a disciplined, highly qualified and technically-apt team focusing on data-driven decision making to achieve functional goals.

The department has taken a lead in carrying out drilling operation in challenging terrain and security situation, especially in the frontier areas. Besides, the department has also ventures into non-conventional plays –exploration and production of tight gas, in line with corporate strategy.

DWE currently operates thirteen onshore drilling rigs consisting two PPL-owned 725-HP and 500-HP rigs and 11 contractors’ rig, including one 2500-HP, eight 2000-HP and two 1500-HP.DWE is also committed in close co-ordination for operational contribution to other operators where PPL has working interests.

Drilling Operations at PPL have seen remarkable improvement in terms of drilling efficiency and well costs during the last couple of years. Several performance records and new benchmarks has been set in all areas of Pakistan. Moving forward, several plans are being worked on for further optimization that includes modification of operational strategies, along with use of new technologies to ensure safer, smarter and faster operations.
